Corsodyl 1% Dental Gel, contains chlorhexadine and is especially useful when targeting specific areas within the mouth. The gel is odourless, and comes in a 50g tube.
How does it work?
Corsodyl dental gel contains the active ingredient chlorhexidine, which is an antiseptic and disinfectant agent.
Chlorhexidine is active against various bacteria, viruses, bacterial spores and fungi. It kills the micro-organisms associated with various mouth and throat infections, and other common conditions in the mouth. This includes the Candida albicans fungi that cause thrush infection in the mouth, and bacteria that may infect mouth ulcers or other sore areas in the mouth, for example following dental surgery. Infection of these areas increases discomfort and delays healing.
What is it used for?
Aid for preventing build-up of plaque on the teeth and maintaining oral hygiene.
Prevention and treatment of gum disease (gingivitis).
Preventing tooth decay in people at high risk, for example people with a dry mouth due to poorly functioning salivary glands (xerostomia).
Promoting gum healing after dental surgery.
Management of mouth ulcers (apthous ulcers).
Management of oral thrush (candidosis).
Directions:
For gum disease: Brush teeth for at least one minute once or twice daily using 2cm of gel. Corsodyl can be used for up to 30 days, depending on the severity of the condition.
Warnings:
Because of the way chlorhexidine forms a protective layer across the teeth and gums to help prevent new plaque from forming, some temporary discolouration can occur on the teeth and tongue. In the majority of cases this can be removed by brushing, and will disappear once the treatment has stopped.
